UK AOC Newsletter - June 2004 |
SymposiumOur classified symposium “Emitter Location For Future Operations” is now well underway for 8 July at the RAeS. Papers will be from MoD, Dstl, QinetiQ, BAE Systems, TRL, Roke Manor,Thales and Northrop Grumman. Registrations are being received at a healthy rate and there are only 100 places available, so register now. The registration form and provisional programme are available on the website ukaoc.org under “events”.
Recent EventsFor those who have just returned from the AOC European Conference, held in Rome 17-19 May, you will have just about got over the shock of having to take out a second mortgage to stay at the Hilton Cavalieri. That having been said, the standard of technical presentations was higher than previous conferences. Elettronica entertained us royally, or should that be imperatorially, on the last night with a visit and dinner at the Capitoline Museum; we hope that we can approach a similar standard when the European Conference is held in London in 2006.
Forthcoming EventsDave Adamy will hold a Fundamentals of EW Course at The RAF Club 5-7 July, immediately before our Symposium; apply in the usual way via crows.org. Dave has also asked if there would be any interest in a Modelling & Simulation Course at a later date; please let him know if there is at dave@lynxpub.com.
The IEE will be holding a Future Military Radar Conference at Shrivenham on 7 September; there will be papers on AI, Maritime and Ground based radar and coverage of Bistatic, SAR and Phased Array radar by presenters from the US, Italy and the UK. Further details from Mike Lewis m.b.lewis@cranfield.ac.uk.
The Defence Electronics History Society (DEHS) will hold its 2004 Summer Symposium at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham on 9 September. Further details in the next newsletter or at www.dehs.org.uk.
Visits are still a bit thin on the ground but we hope to visit those places detailed on the website. However, we now expect to visit HMS Collingwood in September and BAE Systems in October.
360 Squadron ReunionFor those of you who are too young to remember EW before IO, it is now the 10th anniversary of the disbandment of 360 Squadron, the last dedicated EW squadron in the RAF and RN. A Reunion dinner will be held in the Officer’s Mess at RAF Wyton on 16 October 2004; cost will be about £35 per head. Wives or partners, but please not both, are invited. The intention is to have as many people there as possible including all those associated with the squadron and not just winged master races. For further details contact Lt Cdr Pat Broster e-mail waddle@retsorb.freeserve.co.uk or tel: 01480-413313. Unfortunately, I expect that I am banned from attending, as I was responsible for the contractorisation of the squadron’s services; well we all make mistakes.
WebsiteNow that we have a magnificent new website, ukaoc.org please keep your e-mail address up to date. Some of you seem to have difficulty accessing the site from your office, this is usually due to your company’s network firewall denying full access to the site. The site is not password protected and can be accessed easily by using a stand-alone internet machine. If you have recently visited the site, occasionally, you might have to press the refresh button to get updates. |
