UK AOC Newsletter - May 2005

AOC European Conference & Exposition 2006
'Interoperability – Challenges & Opportunities'

As previously announced, the 6th European EW/IO Conference & Exposition will be held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, Edgeware Road, London, over the period 2-5 May 2006.

The catch-all title has now been decided. View/download the initial advertising for the event, in the form of a postcard.

Members should treat this as an initial call for papers and Roger Blackburn will be pursuing you over the coming months for papers covering the inset topics.

Recent Visit

The long awaited visit to the EW Test Facility at BAE Systems, Warton, took place on 10 May. Surprisingly, in view of the clamour that had taken place to organise such a visit, we were undersubscribed. This can be partially explained by our failure to distribute the "snail mail" version of the April newsletter but was compounded by 5 last minute cancellations.

However, Colin Hinds and Keith Lawton treated the 13 attendees to an excellent set of Typhoon briefings and it was great to see the all-electric wonder jet under test in the EWTF.

Many of you will be aware of the adverse press that the Typhoon programme periodically receives but one thing that sticks in Roger Blackburn's mind from the briefing was "just look at the smile on the faces of the pilots after a Typhoon flight". Following his recent involvement in the flight trials programme, he can vouch for that sentiment.

One final word on the day - Colin, don't invite us to the next lightning strike test!
