2024 UK Chapter Awards
Two awards were made at the Chapter Annual Dinner, recognising outstanding contributions to EW in recent years in the context of practical operational impact and technical advancement.
Air Cdre J Blythe Crawford CBE
Commandant ASWC
Recognised for his impact and advocacy for Electronic Warfare (EW) at both national and international strategic levels, he has campaigned tirelessly for EW to most 3* and 4* officers across all domains through to the Minister of Armed Forces. Blythe has driven the acceleration of multiple battle-winning EW capabilities to the front line, in partnership with Dstl, the RCO and industry. His thought leadership has enabled personnel to innovate and succeed. He has established the Spectrum Warfare Division (SWD) that has significantly raised the profile of the impact that EW can bring to the warfighter.
Jon Williams
Principal Engineer Threat Detection and Countermeasures, Dstl
Recognised for his impact as a vastly experienced multi-domain EW specialist who is at the leading edge of available S&T and has delivered effective capabilities for UK Defence and our partners. Jon is highly regarded both nationally and internationally and brings to bear experience honed through a variety of roles across Defence.
2024 AOC Award Recipients
Hal Gershanoff Silver Medal Award - International
Dr. Sue Robertson
Awarded for over thirty years of service and dedication to the community and AOC by continually promoting its mission and objectives. Dr. Robertson has been at the very core of AOC’s activities and membership, continually improving the infrastructure and international relations that have shaped the organization into what it is today. Sue continues to lead the international EW community, inspiring and guiding generations of EW professionals who will follow her. She embodies what an AOC member can contribute and accomplish in furthering the advancement of EW and AOC.
John M. Clifford Award for the Advancement of the Electromagnetic Domain Award - International
Dr. Thomas J. Withington
Awarded for his advocacy, education, and communication regarding electromagnetic warfare and electromagnetic spectrum operations as an ambassador for AOC in the international arena.
Academic and Educational Excellence Award - International
Professor David Stupples:
Awarded for distinguishing himself through thought leadership in a wide variety of electromagnetic warfare disciplines. As a professor in satellite reconnaissance and surveillance, he has mentored countless electromagnetic warfare professionals in academia, industry, and the military throughout the world.
2023 AOC Award Recipient:
Mr. Chris Howe, MBE has been awarded the Hal Gershanoff AOC Silver Medal. Chris attended the Award ceremony at the AOC Symposium in the USA.
2020 Award Recipients:
Mr John Clifford, OBE was recognised posthumously with the Anton D Tony Brees Lifetime Service Award. It is hoped a presentation can take place in 2021 once current Covid restrictions are lifted.
Mr Tim Gosling, was recognised with an Outstanding Achievement Award. The actual presentation was finally made at the 10 December 2021 Christmas Awards dinner at the RAF Club and was presented by Chris Howe MBE, UK Chapter President. Photo adjacent. BZ Tim
