The AOC Today

Electronic Warfare has been, and remains, a critical enabling capability in military operations in peace and war. With the evolution of digital and computer technology, EW, IO and related disciplines are increasingly necessary to achieve situational awareness, knowledge superiority, strategic and tactical dominance, and force and platform protection in both offensive and defensive operations.

Founded in 1964, today the AOC has over 13,000 members from 47 countries, including 62 Chapters around the world. With its headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, USA, it has an annual budget of approximately US $2.4 million and 8 permanent staff.

The United Kingdom Chapter; the first and largest outside the US, was formed in 1972 and maintains a healthy membership in excess of 500 from industry, all ranks of the armed services, commerce, industry, research establishments and academia.

All members receive free monthly copies of the outstanding Journal of Electromagnetic Dominance (JED) and can attend meetings, workshops and conferences either free or at reduced rates . Members are informed of all UK Chapter activities through the regular, 2 monthly, UK Chapter Newsletters.

History of the AOC

During the Second World War, Allied Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) operators, tasked to disrupt enemy communications and radars, were given the code name 'Raven' to provide a degree of security to their existence.

After WW II, military jargon subsequently changed the name of these former Ravens and they became known as 'Old Crows'. The full history of the Association of Old Crows (AOC), current activities, plans and lots of other useful information can be found at: www.crows.org.
