Elections to the Board of Directors
Roger Hannaford has decided not to seek re-election. Roger has completed 25 years of service to the Chapter and has been a great asset to us. He has consistently reported accurately and succinctly on the activities of the Board. He will be missed by all of us in the Chapter. We are therefore seeking nominations for the important post of Secretary.
Jonathan 'Swaz' Bramley is standing for re-election as Vice-President.

The 2023/4 AGM will be held by Zoom on 23rd May at 1900. The results of the Elections will be announced. The President will also present his recommendations for the Chapter Strategy.

At the 2023 Christmas Dinner, Mrs. Jane Clifford was recognised for her Outstanding Contribution to the success and reputation of the UK Chapter. In his address (link below), the President stated: "For a long period of the Chapter's recent history, the leader of our EW Community was John Clifford OBE. We all know what he did to formalise the NATO understanding of EW and to support individual members of the AOC. Until the recent AOC Europe Conference in Bonn, I had not met his wife, Jane. Once I had, I saw how highly she was regarded and that she was greeted warmly by so many members of the AOC from Chapters and Roosts across Europe and the USA. In discussions after the Conference, it was clear that Jane had contributed a lot to the successful running of our Chapter and to the excellent reputation that we had across the world. Consequently, the Board of the Chapter have decided that we should recognise Jane's contribution by awarding her a Commendation."

Great news for the UK Chapter is the recent announcement of the AOC 2023 Awards, in which our former President has been recognised.
Hal Gershanoff AOC Silver Medal 2023 - Chris Howe MBE
The Hal Gershanoff AOC Silver Medal is presented to an AOC member to recognize outstanding service in furthering the goals of the Association or its Chapter organization(s). It is the highest award given to a member for dedicated service to the AOC at the Chapter, National/ International levels over a significant period of time.
Many congratulations to Chris from the Board on behalf of all our members.

The organisation of the pages on the website is being modified, so you may find some of the pages with which you are familiar have moved under new headings. This is so that we can add or enhance some features over coming months (e.g. links to useful websites, new content and a revised Job Vacancies and Opportunities page).

The UK Chapter AGM for 2023, was held on 15 March. Professor Steve Roberts was elected to fill the post of UK Chapter President and has now taken over the post from Chris Howe MBE. The Board of the Chapter wishes to thank Chris for the excellent work he has done in recent years as our President and for his superb contributions to EW through his military service as well as his long-service to the Chapter and the wider AOC.

As President, I am very pleased to announce that the UK Chapter has once again won ‘Distinguised Chapter’ in the large chapter category for 2021. Not an easy achievement given the prevailing COVID restrictions that were in force throughout the reporting period. Onwards and upwards for the UK Chapter.

It has been agreed by all Region 1 Chapters that a series of virtual EW presentations will take place over the coming months. The first in this series will be run by the Arctic Roost at 1900 on Tuesday 2 February 2021, titled “Quantitative optimization of countermeasures for platform protection”. Dear UK Chapter members, AOC HQ would like to draw your attention to two important events that are coming up very soon:
September 29th - AOC HQ will be holding the second Virtual Summit called CEMALite. It is free for all members and active Duty Military. The one-day virtual event will provide attendees an update on EW emerging requirements, policy, Science & Technology (S&T) initiatives, programmes, leadership perspective, and operational feedback from the field. October 1st - AOC Board Elections will run from Oct 1st through Oct 30th. There is an amazing list of candidates this year. Be sure to read the candidates bios and watch their video messages. Good news indeed! AOC HQ has just revealed the 2020 Chapter of the Year results: The UK Chapter Board are very pleased to announce that once again we won the Large Chapter Category Chapter of the Year; however, this year outright on our own. We also managed the greatest improvement score. Well done indeed UK Chapter.

It is with much sadness that the UK Chapter President, Wing Commander John Clifford OBE, passed away on Tuesday 5 May 2020. The UK Chapter Board and all members offer sincerest condolences to John's wife Jane and her family at this most difficult time. A proper tribute to John will be forthcoming.
UK Chapter VP, Chris Howe MBE, will act as temporary President until such times as a new President can be determined and elected. Sad times indeed. Rest in Peace John

Dear UK Chapter members, sadly, due to the current climate caused by the Coronavirus, the Board of Directors has taken the decision to cancel the forthcoming AGM scheduled for Tuesday 17 March 2020. The decision was not taken lightly, but it was felt that the safety of our members may well be compromised by having to undertake travel up to and through the London transport system in order to attend. The Board will in fact be holding an online Board meeting at some stage soon and will consider disseminating an up to date brief on past, current and future issues that it is felt you may wish to be aware of. If there are any questions that arise on any AOC issues then please do not hesitate to contact any of the Board members direct. Please monitor this website for any future announcements re UK Chapter or other AOC events. Stay safe and best regards from your Board.
